Stretta anti-reflux procedure
Stretta is a minimally invasive procedure that involves an endoscope (a thin, flexible tube) being passed through the mouth and down the oesophagus (food pipe). The technique treats the damaging acid reflux symptoms of Gastro-oesophageal reflux disease and laryngopharyngeal reflux (LPR).
The instrument uses radiofrequency energy to thicken and improve the ring of muscle that forms the lower oesophageal sphincter (LOS), which acts as a valve between the food pipe and the stomach.
In a weakened state, the LOS is less able to stop stomach acid and bile rising up the esophagus.
